Current situation in J&K contrary to tall claims made by govt: Karra

Budgam May 7 (KNS): Stating that J&K is witnessing ugliest situation on security, employment, development and various other fronts, senior Congress leader and AICC Steering Committee Member Tariq Hameed Karra on Sunday rejected the tall claims being made by BJP about “Naya Kashmir”.

Karra was addressing a workers meeting at Beerwah area in which senior party leaders and prominent workers of Beerwah segment participated.

He expressed serious concern over the current situation in J&K and termed the “Achey Din” and “Naya Kashmir” slogans by BJP hollow and meaningless and contrary to reality.

According to a statement issued to KNS he said in Naya Kashmir people are robbed of their democratic rights while keeping them away from elections coupled with vindictive policies, oppression, suppression and imposing anti people orders with a stroke of pen.

“People are not allowed to raise their voice and seek restoration of their just rights in Naya Kashmir,” Karra rued.

J&K wants Purana Kashmir back which does guarantee protection of people’s rights, safety, peace, dignity and honour. Referring to beating the drums of Achey Din slogan, Karra asserted that in BJP’s Achey Din, terror incidents have increased considerably, precious lives of soldiers were lost in various militant attacks every now and then, with the result people are feeling insecure given the subsequent incident of encounters in different area of J&K.

“There is a contradiction to be seen between the claims made by the Centre Govt with regard to prevalence of peace and the current situation both the claims are opposite to each other,” Karra said

He said Centre’s policies have pushed J&K towards the darkest era, the deliberate delay in holding assembly elections and restoration of statehood to J&K reflects that government has lied on the floor of the house while shying away from the elections for the reasons known to them.

Karra further said neither government has fulfilled the promise of restoring statehood nor paving way for holding elections aiming to rule J&K directly from Centre, but how long such misadventures on the part of BJP will continue in J&K.

He expressed serious concern over the rising unemployment and lack of development in J&K and said government is not able to curb unemployment which has led to the drug menace amongst the youth even those educated youth who opt for job interviews don’t get the chance to appear, as that, the interviews announced  gets abruptly cancelled, which has happened in recent past.

Referring to the Srinagar smart city project, he said as Member of Parliament he got the project sanctioned by the then Union Finance Minister during Budget Session 2015 which is on record in the Parliament, but the contours of the project were pro people and completely different from what the administration is executing under the pattern of Gujrat Model.

“People are facing a lot of hardships as roads have been squeezed leading to the massive traffic jams. Government is drawing sadistic pleasure out of the intimidation of people as a whole, employees and educated unemployed youth in particular,” Karra said and urged the government to adopt a friendly approach towards unemployed youth and create job opportunities for them.

He also demanded regularisation of those already employed under various schemes in different departments such as contractual, CIC Operators working in RDD, casual labourers, need basis and others, on priority basis.

Senior Congress Leader Surinder Singh Channi, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Syed Manzoor Ahmad, Dr. Audil Mir, Abid Mir Magami, Abdul Majeed Dar and various other leaders also addressed the meeting. (KNS)
