Srinagar, 10 May (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, while expressing concern over the heavy toll of human lives all across the country, and J&K in particular, asked the people and the administration to cement unity during the current crises.

In a statement issued to Kashmir news service (KNS), the Party Senior Leader and Vice Provincial President Muhammad Syed Akhoon said the current unprecedented situation demands unmatched efforts of the administration. He said that the administration is duty-bound to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the citizenry but at the same time, he said the people cannot evade their responsibility to help curb the progression of the deadly viral infection.

“The situation demands all of us to cement our efforts; people who are losing their lives are our own. Tomorrow it could be any one. Administration on its part has to boost up its capacity to meet the increasing rate of infection by remaining vigilant in their daily lives.  So far, it has been seen cluster infection play an important role. Therefore it is requisite for people to take prevention and control measures such as social distancing, avoiding congregations. Strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol, and other advisories being issued by the concerned department from time to time,’ he said

“On the other hand, our efforts will help ease the burden from hospitals and ensure better access of facilities to already affected ones who are undergoing treatment at various health facilities. Our precautions will go a long way in containing the viral spread,” he added.

Akhoon also expressed gratitude to the Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah for recommending the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar to release Rs 50 Lacs for the directorate of health services, 30 Lacs each to Government Chest Diseases Hospital, Srinagar, Government SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, and SKIMS Medical College Hospital Srinagar. He hoped the funds will be utilized by the concerned institutions to give boost to COVID care and plug the shortages to cater to various other COVID exigencies.

Akhoon also sought the availability of essentials in the areas that have been designated as micro-containment zones across Kashmir in wake of the Eid observance. Expressing concern over the predicaments suffered by the people in COVID-19 micro-containment areas, He said with the government placing these areas under strict lockdown and tight perimeter control, the people residing in such areas are suffering from acute scarcity of essentials and other household items. He urged the divisional administration to work out a mechanism to ensure the supply of essential commodities at the doorsteps of people in such hot spots, where it is not feasible for people to step out.(KNS)
