Court orders immediate removal of defamatory content against DyCM

New Delhi, Dec 16 (KNS): The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the immediate removal of doctored video clips targeting Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary from social media platforms.

Choudhary had approached the court seeking directions for the takedown of videos circulating on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media intermediaries.

Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayyar, appearing for Choudhary along with Suhail Malik and Vastav Sharma, told the court that the videos were based on an audio recording of a private telephonic conversation between a man and a woman, which contained no visual element.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The videos, however, included thumbnails and visuals falsely superimposing Choudhary’s photograph, creating a misleading impression that he was speaking in the recording.

The court noted that Choudhary had prima facie established that the voice in the audio was not his and observed that the circulation of such content could cause serious reputational harm.

The court directed the immediate removal of the doctored clips from all concerned platforms and ordered YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram to comply within 48 hours, failing which they would face appropriate action.(KNS).
