Cop injured in militant attack in Bijbehara, succumbs on way to Srinagar hospital: Police

Srinagar, Dec 22 (KNS): An assistant sub-inspector of police, who was critically injured after militants fired upon him in Bijbehara area of Anantnag on Wednesday evening, has succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital, police said here.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that militants indiscriminately fired upon an ASI Mohammad Ashraf posted at Bijbehara police station and injured him critically.

He said that the injured cop was shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment, however, he succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.

Earlier, medical superintendent, Dr Abdul Gani had told KNS that the cop had received gunshot wounds in his chest and was shifted to SKIMS Soura in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, the official said that area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers. (KNS)
