Say keeping in view safety of civilians, evening rush police team exercised maximum restraint

Srinagar, Nov 14 (KNS): A police man was injured after militants fired upon a team of police in a brief shootout during a raid in Jamalta locality of Nawa Kada in Srinagar on Sunday evening, police said here.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that based on a specific input about the presence of militants in Jamalata area of Nawa Kadal, a raid was carried out by a small party of Srinagar Police. 

He said that as the team approached towards suspected spot, the hiding militants started indiscriminate firing upon them, resulting in injuries to one police personnel.

He said that injured was evacuated to a nearby hospital for the treatment. “Keeping in view the safety of the civilians and evening rush in the area, the police team exercised maximum restraint,” he said.

The official said that, however, reinforcement of CRPF and police cordoned off the suspected cluster of houses and search was launched in the area.

He also said that the Police have registered a case and investigation has been taken into the matter. (KNS)
