Congress delegation visits Noorbagh fire victims, Demands complete rehabilitation

Srinagar June 16 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and former MLC G N Monga today urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure short-term and long-term rehabilitation of fire victims of Noorbagh, Baramulla, whose houses were gutted in a recent blaze.

While demanding complete rehabilitation of the fire victims, Monga said, “The area is extremely congested and the people whose houses have been gutted are already marginalized people belonging to the underprivileged section of society. It is difficult for them to restart their lives without the full support and help from the government.”

“Either the government should provide all the victim families a five marla land plot at some suitable place or provide them two-bedroom flats so that they can restart their lives again. The administration must also provide financial package for the victims,” he demanded. “The LG should also order the administration to immediately assess the losses so that a satisfactory compensation is worked-out and distributed to the affected at the earliest.”The delegation led by Monga included Congress leaders Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Abdul Rouf Moon, Nissar Ahmad Malik, Mohammad Yousuf Dar and others. While interacting with the fire victims at Gujjar Bakerwal hostel, where they have been temporarily shifted, the leaders said, “We have come to express our unison with the victims.”

The Congress delegation assured the victims that they were not alone at this difficult time, as the party will walk shoulder to shoulder with them. The fire victims, who are presently putting up at Gujjar Bakerwal hostel, are facing huge problems.(KNS)
