Srinagar, July 10 (KNS): Eid al-Adha congregation prayers were held on Sunday in all major shrines, Eidgahs and Masjids across Jammu and Kashmir, while Eid was celebrated with religious fervour after a gap of two years due to Covid-19.


Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that main Eid congregation prayer was held at Dargah Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar, while congregational prayers were also held in all Eidgahs, Masjids and Shrine at the district headquarters.

They said that hundreds of devotees thronged the Hazratbal shrine to offer Eid congregational prayers and devotees also prayed for peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.

Reported also said that Eid prayers were also held at Charer-i-Sharief shrine in Budgam, Khanqah Maula Srinagar and in all other major shrines, Eidgahs and Masjids to mark Eid al-Adha.

Meanwhile, authorities disallowed prayers at Eidgah Srinagar and Jamia Masjid Srinagar even after request was made by the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid for making the arrangements for Eid prayers.

Anjuman, in a statement said that on behalf of its incarcerated president Mirwaiz Umar Farooq denounced the authorities for disallowing Eid prayers at Jama Masjid Srinagar today.

The statement reads that Police and paramilitary personnel sealed and closed the gates of the mosque and did not allow anyone to enter inside the premises. 

“Since early morning heavy deployment of forces was made all around Jama Masjid Srinagar and adjacent areas. Authorities also did not allow Eid prayers at Eidgah Srinagar,” it added. (KNS)
