Cong will have to sit in opposition for 50 years if it does not hold inner party elections: Azad


New Delhi, Aug,28 (KNS) : Senior Congress leader and Leader of the opposition in Rajaya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has reiterated his demand for inner party elections and warned that if Congress party does not hold inner party elections, it will have to sit in the opposition for the next 50 years . Ghulam Nabi Azad is also a former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and five times union minister.
In a 27 minute video shared on his official Facebook page, Azad said that this should have happened 10-15 years ago. ‘For the last many decades, we do not have elected bodies at the party. Now we are losing elections after elections, and if we have to come back we need to strengthen our party. Holding elections is one way of doing it.’
Significantly Azad’s term as leader of opposition ends in February 2021. A party veteran from the Sanjay Gandhi era, Azad led Congress successfully in the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election and was instrumental in establish NC-Congress coalition government in 2009 which last for full six year term till 2014 under the leadership of top National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.(KNS)
