Srinagar, August 6 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum has taken a dig on the govt for not opening Jamia Masjid Srinagar permanently but to open it on a certain occasion and then again closing it on grand festivals.
Forum Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani in a statement said that It has been now the practice of 3 years of its closure now after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A on August 05 2019.

" Jamia Masjid is the grand, majestic and divine religious milestone of muslims of jammu and kashmir besides the mega hub of trade and commerce of the entire Jammu and Kashmir. Wani expressed concern over the attitude of stakeholders who allow only partial opening of this grand centre of worship for muslims and its closure at important occasions like festivals etc,." Statement reads

Forum said Jamia Masjid besides religious geo-social scope, is the backbone of the indigenous commerce, trade, entrepreneurship and art in whole Jammu and Kashmir with regard to economy in terms of the basic recognition of main Srinagar, Shar-E-Khas.
Recalling the glorious past Chairman of Society said that People from nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir happened to plan before days to travel to Srinagar as a religious belief to pray Friday prayers at this grand mosque to attain mental peace and thus have been waiting for its permanant opening but three years on now the grand mosque awaits a permanent opening for prayers, it added.

The Forum has decried the house detention of Mirwaiz-e Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umer Farooq who completed three years of house detention since the abrogation of Article 370 and 35–A on August ,5,2019.

The Forum has demanded his immediate release from the house detention to let him lead the Friday Prayers at Grand Mosque Srinagar as people have spiritual allegiance with him as Mirwaiz.

“However, the wait is not seen an end now and the devotees fail to understand why the mosque is not being opened for prayers at important occasions too when there are no reasons now to keep it closed for grand occasions, they ask questions that not being able to offer prayers at the grand mosque why it is not opened and why Mirwaiz Umer Farooq is not allowed to led the prayers with whom devotees have religious attachment and that people visiting Jamia Masjid cant buy their commodities of choice from the main Srinagar for which they have been adapted to from ages” Wani said.
