RAJOURI, JUNE 23 (KNS): Apni Party Vice President and Former Minister, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali has appealed to the Govt to launch rescue operations in far-flung areas in Pir Panjal where the people have been trapped following heavy snowfall and rainfall.

In a statement issued to the press, he said that the weather condition has improved and it is expected from the Govt to launch immediate rescue operations using helicopters, SDRF and NDRF teams in Pir Panjal to rescue the trapped nomadic families, their cattles and their livestock.

“We have come to know that many people have been stuck in difficult and unapproachable areas with their livestock. These people have also lost contact with their families. Hence, it becomes imperative for the authorities to immediately launch a rescue operation,” he added.

He said that the authorities must also drop food packets for the nomads in the upper reaches of Pir Panjal as well as provide fodder for their cattles/livestocks.

He further said that the heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Pir Panjal and rainfall has affected the normal life with many people stuck without ration and medical aid.

“The people should be provided medical aid, ration and tents so that they can survive in the harsh weather conditions,” he said.

He said that “The authorities must constitute assessment teams and depute them to the snowfall affected areas. People must be provided appropriate compensation for the loss of their cattles/livestock if it has happened due to the inclement weather conditions.”

“The livelihood of the nomads has been worsley affected and hence, they must be provided adequate compensation,” he said.(KNS)
