Srinagar December 27 (KNS): CCIK today expressed its concern over the traffic chaos in Srinagar city which affects business community badly especially traders and shopkeepers of Srinagar. CCIK requested Honourable LG and IG Traffic to look into the matter seriously as shopkeepers are facing immense loss due to huge traffic chaos and unavailability of parking at main markets.
The CCIK requested that expert and specialized professionals should be brought into the traffic department to ease out the traffic mess in the city. The unnecessary diversions at many places without consulting experts has put Srinagar city in disaster.
The CCIK said that the need of the hour is to streamline the traffic as it plays major role in the economy of valley. The President Mr. Tariq Ghani said that there is also traffic chaos at tourist destinations like Pahalgam and Gulmarg. It takes tourists double the time to reach their destinations, as the tourists have limited time and most of it is wasted in traffic jams.
The higher authorities need to look into the matter as it has badly affected tourism. The CCIK said that it seems traffic cops are busy in checking documents rather than streamlining traffic, also traffic cops are not found in downtown area. The CCIK requests Honourable LG to take concrete and immediate step so that people get relieved from traffic stress. (KNS)
