Srinagar, Sept 11 (KNS): People living in Srinagar and other parts of Valley on Friday alleged CAPD in deep slumber and said department has failed to contain prices of vegetables which have gone ‘sky rocket’ amid Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile Director CAPD assured that department will lodge FIRs against those violating rate list set by authorities.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), people across Srinagar and other parts of Valley have raised arms against Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department and alleged it has failed to contain the prices of daily needs especially vegetables.

Several delegations told this reporter that prices of vegetables have gone ‘sky rocket’ since few weeks which left consumers into deep trouble. They said the prices have touched skies and it has become impossible not only for poor but middle class section too to purchase vegetables from the market.

“The prices of greens, tomato, potato, carrot, radish etc have gone up and has become out of budget for common people. One is hesitating to hit the market amid sky rocketing prices”, said Ghulam Nabi Dar of Srinagar.

He expressed surprised over claims of authorities and said ineffective control of concerned department CAPD over the market has been irking people who find themselves helpless before the sellers.

It is worth to mention that greens are being sold 60 Rs per kg, tomato 70, potato 70, onion 50, etc. Locals have appealed authorities to look into and maintain price control in the market.

When KNS contacted Director CAPD, Bashir Ahmad he said the market cheking sqauds have already been pressed into service and added in days to come if sellers will not shun "over pricing" consumers, department will carry drive and lodge FIRs against the involved. (KNS)
