Srinagar May 18 (KNS)  Congress General Secretary Surinder Singh Channi today started a drug de-addiction campaign in Tral. 
 
The campaign was launched to create awareness among students and the general public about the drugs menace while focussing on informing people about the escalating trends in drug abuse, the consequences of the addiction and the options for saving the addicted people. 
 
Various People were engaged & educated about the exploding drug related crisis in the society.
 
During the campaign people were informed that 4.6 % of total population of Jammu Kashmir are drug abuser’s. Among them, 90 per cent of the substance abusers are 17-33 years old as per the government data available 100 times increase in drug addiction patients has been recorded from 2014 to 2021 at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. It is high time to understand the exploding situation and respond at levels in society. 
 
The best ways are to create awareness in the younger generation about the drug abuse guiding them to go for treatment in hospitals and their rehabilitation, as well. 
Channi also said that to create awareness among the youth such initiatives should be conducted at schools and colleges level & Literature creating awareness on drug de-addiction should be distributed among the students. 
 
For mass awareness, Religious preachers across Jammu Kashmir should address the public on the consequences of Drug abuse and the De-Addiction strategies during religious Sermons . 
 
Channi also appealed people of J&K to take the drug menace very seriously and adopt measures to curb the menace. He also stated that on behalf of Congress Party a continuous efforts from him will continue to save people from drug abuse.(KNS)
