Emotional scenes witnessed as Jamia’s pulpit reverberates after 49 Fridays; Devotees thank authorities, seek release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar, Mar 04 (KNS): After a gap of over 30 weeks, the authorities today allowed reopening of historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar for Friday prayers. 
 
An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Jamia Masjid was reopened today after a gap 30 weeks and Friday prayers will be today at the central Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
 
Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and Anjuman Auqaf general secretary Mohammad Altaf also confirmed to KNS that Jamia Masjid was reopened and Friday prayers were also held peacefully today.
 
On February 28, divisional commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, SSP Srinagar along with other officials had visited the masjid to take review of arrangements for its reopening.
 
The officials had also held a meeting with the Anjuman Auqaf regarding the reopening of Jamia Masjid.
 
Meanwhile, Friday prayers culminated peacefully at the central Jamia Masjid wherein thousands of men and women participated in the congregation Friday prayers.
 
Devotees after offering prayers at the Masjid after a long gap, expressed happiness and emotional scenes were also witnessed during the congregation prayers.
 
They also said that due to allowing of reopening of Masjid for prayers, business will also flourish in the area, which will generate revenue for Auqaf shops.
 
The devotees while thanking the authorities for allowing prayers at Jamia Masjid also appealed for the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house detention since August 05, 2019. (KNS)
