Srinagar, June 15 (KNS): Budgam Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against certain unidentified individuals for allegedly creating and circulating provocative content on social media platforms, aimed at promoting enmity and hatred between religious groups, officials said on Monday.
An official said that FIR No. 163/2026 was lodged at Police Station Budgam under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following credible inputs about dissemination of provocative videos and misinformation. "The content was found to have the potential to outrage religious feelings and disturb communal harmony, particularly in view of the forthcoming holy month of Muharram," the official added.
Police have initiated an investigation to identify all those involved in the circulation of objectionable material.

Meanwhile, Budgam Police have appealed to the public to exercise restraint while using social media and refrain from creating, sharing, or forwarding any content that may incite hatred, hurt religious sentiments, or disturb public order.
"Budgam Police remains committed to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and public order across the district," the spokesman added. Further investigation into the matter is underway. (KNS)
