BJP want to finish Secularism, Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb of the country: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar, Dec 28 (KNS): PDP president and former chief minister of J&K, Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday accused BJP of finishing secularism and Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb of the country "through their wrongdoings".

She said J&K acceded to India owing to its secular constitution but BJP destroyed the secular fabric of country. "When people were killed at the time of partition across India, it was J&K only where minorities were protected by local population. But today J&K has received a major brunt of anti-people policies of BJP government", Mehbooba as per KNS told reporters here.

Commenting on Congress led Bharat Jodo Yatra, the PDP chief said it is our duty to come forward and join the yatra for the larger interest of country. "It is a moment of glad to join a person (Rahul Gandhi) who stood against those who want to root-out the secular principles of the country and to damage its Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb (culture)", Mehbooba said.

She added J&K has currently become an "open prison" where jails are packed. Besides students pursuing education outside J&K being beaten ruthlessly. She also added that "BJP has caused a massive damage to the secular atmosphere all over the country".

On militancy, the PDP president said Government has failed to curb militancy despite beating drums about normalcy. "Earlier militancy was confined to Kashmir only and now it has reached to Jammu region", she was commenting on Sidhra's Jammu militant attack in which three militants were killed by security forces after intercepting a truck they were travelling in.

She also said that "Government may likely to stop Bharat Jodo Yatra in pretext of militancy and Covid19 pandemic". (KNS)
