Handwara, Sept 27 (KNS): Block Development Council (BDC) Chairman Qaziabad Handwara on Sunday accused Jal Shakti Department Handwara division and said no official of the department attended the ongoing Janabhiyan session. He alleged that the department is full of scams.
Speaking to KNS, BDC Chairman Qaziabad Mir Bashir said that Jal Shakti Division Handwara is full of scams and none of the official attended the ongoing Janabhiyan session which is aimed to address the genuine concerns of people on spot.
He said the department has constructed a filtration plant in Badbug village of Qaziabad with an estimated amount of Rs 2 crore but unfortunately the said plant is currently out of bounds due to technical snag.
“There is a continuous leakage in the filtration plant which left the population into unlimited hardships. Jal Shakti Department has failed to provide drinking water to local population because there are multiple scams within”, BDC alleged.
“I don’t know how the said project got approval and why contractors were allowed to withdraw the bills”, he said.
He said several areas in the block are without drinking water from last two decades and no official has took up the issue seriously.
He also said that as the entire administration across UT is engaged with listening peoples grievances and to resolve them on spot, it is unfortunate that none of the official of Jal Shakti Division Handwara have attended the ongoing Block Divas event.
The BDC Chairman Mawer, Tahir Aftab also expressed the same reservations. He said Chief Engineer PHE few days ago visited Handwara but left without meeting people who were eagerly waiting to put up their grievances with the official. He also added that the officials of the Jal Shakti Department are evading Block Divas events.
Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Department (earlier PHE) Kashmir division Iftikhar Ahmad told KNS that if any officials has involved in dereliction of his duties, strict action will be taken up in this regard.
He added I visited Handwara few days ago and took review of water schemes in Kachloo, Khaipora, Mawar, Rajwar and Qaziabad areas. (KNS)
