Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNS) : An army soldier who was injured in an encounter in Baramulla district yesterday succumbed to his injuries at a Srinagar hospital on Thursday, officials said.
In the operation, a Lashkar-i-Toiba militant was caught alive during a gunfight while as foreign militant is still at large in injured condition in Sultanpora forest area of Sheeri Chandoosa.
Meanwhile, the officials said that an encounter took place at Asthan Marg in general area of Kausarnag, Kulgam district in which one militant got killed while the operation is in progress and search in the area is still going on.
The police in a statement said that acting on specific information regarding presence of terrorists in Wanseeran Taripora Jungle area in the jurisdiction of Police station Sheeri in Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and security forces in the area. "During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter," it said.
"During the initial exchange of fire, one Army Jawan of 52RR received gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment of his injuries. However, he later on succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom. Besides, one local terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT Nisar Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Akbar Bhat resident of Shrakwara Kreeri, Baramulla was apprehended alive. While as, the other terrorist is a Foreign Pakistani terrorist Usman of LeT who is being tracked down as the cordon area has been extended due to dense forest area," the police said.
"Arms and ammunition including 01 modified AKS-74U, 01 Magazine, 28 rounds among other incriminating materials have been recovered from the apprehended terrorist. A case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation taken up," the police added.
"Moreover, a low intensity blast took place at Aloosa in district Bandipora while Army’s vehicle was passing through Aloosa area. No loss of life reported. Reinforcement reached and area being searched," it added.
"In the meantime, an encounter took place at Asthan Marg in general area of Kausarnag, Kulgam district in which one terrorist got killed. However, the operation is in progress and search in the area is still going on. Further details if any shall be communicated accordingly," the police added.
