Baramulla, Oct 25 (KNS): Bandipora-origin teacher Aasima Jan, currently working in Baramulla, has authored a book titled Foundations of School Enrolment and Retention, highlighting the challenges of bringing children into classrooms and ensuring they continue their education.
The book was launched during a literary meet organised by the Baramulla Writers Forum, where the importance of creating safe, inclusive and child-friendly learning environments was highlighted.
Drawing on her experience as a teacher, Jan examines why school enrolment alone cannot guarantee educational progress and how fear, inadequate support and other barriers can affect children's willingness to continue their studies.
The book emphasises that schools must move beyond enrolment figures and focus on retaining students by making classrooms welcoming, supportive and free from fear.
It also explores the role of teachers, parents and local communities in preventing school dropouts and ensuring that children, particularly those facing educational disadvantages, receive the support necessary to continue learning.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Jan advocates teaching practices that encourage confidence, participation and curiosity among students rather than creating an atmosphere of pressure or intimidation.
The publication also reflects the author's personal journey and acknowledges the influence of her mother, whose encouragement, sacrifices and values played an important role in shaping her commitment to education.
Through the book, Jan seeks to contribute to the wider discussion on improving school education by placing children's well-being, equal opportunities and sustained participation at the centre of educational planning.
The work underlines that meaningful educational progress depends not merely on bringing children to school but on creating conditions that encourage them to stay, learn and realise their potential. (KNS)
