Awantipora June 05 (KNS): Awantipora police on Friday claimed to have destroyed illegal poppy in 20 kanals of land in the area by using tractors and have arrested five persons in this connection.
A police statement issued to KNS reads, in continuation to the special drive launched by Awantipora Police for destroying illegal poppy cultivation, today Awantipora police using tractors to ensure complete destruction of poppy, destroyed a huge junk of cultivated poppy spread over more than 20 Kanals of land in village Wakherwan Awantipora . 05 person involved in cultivation of illegal poppy have been arrested under relevant sections of NDPS Act. The police have identified the arrested persons as Showkat Ahmad Mir of Wakherwan, Nazir Ahmad Mir of Wakherwan, Gh Mohmad Mir of Wakherwan, Mohamad Shaban of Kawini and Gh Hassan Sheikh of Kawini

Case F.I.R No.75/2020 stands registered against the said arrested persons in Police Station Awantipora under relevant sections of NDPS Act.

General public of the area have appreciated the action of Police and have urged the authorities to continue this drive in nearby areas also, the statement said (KNS)
