Srinagar, Dec 14 (KNS): Inspector General of Police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that three militants from Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit carried out Zewan attack and it was a pre-planned attack, in which three cops were killed and 11 others were injured.

As per Kashmir News Service (KNS), talking to reporters on the sidelines of wreath ceremony of third slain cop, IGP said that among the three militants, who carried out the attack, two were foreign militants and one was a local militant. "They resorted to indiscriminate firing in which 14 jawans got injured. They were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment but two of them succumbed to their injuries. Today early morning, third injured jawan also succumbed to his injuries, while rest are stable now," he added.

He said that when the militants attacked the bus, the forces tried to defend themselves and in the retaliatory firing one militant got injured. "The blood trail of injured militant indicate that they fled towards Khrew area, after that they fled towards Pampore and then Kralpora. The police are tracing the group and soon they will be neutralized."

He further said that the intention of the militants was to attack the jawans and snatch their weapons, but the jawans retaliated effectively and no weapon has been snatched.

Replying to a question, IGP said that it was a pre-planned attack as militants had carried this attack with full preparations. "It was a daily routine for the bus to go from that route to the camp so it was definitely a planned attack. We are getting the inputs and soon all of these militants will be neutralized."

He said that at that time duty was withdrawn and it was quite dark so the militants were successful in attacking the bus and escaped from the spot. "But we will take all preventive measures and will increase the vigil at every spot," he added.

Notably, IGP along with other police personnel today morning paid tributes to constable Rameez Ahmad Baba, third cop, who succumbed to his injuries after yesterday's attack on a police bus in which 14 personnel were injured. (KNS)
