Srinagar, July 11 (KNS): As cases of COVID 19 soar, Government will take a decision in 24 hours on reimposing a lockdown in Kashmir.

From some days Kashmir is witnessing a surge in cases and doctors and other civil society members have called for imposing lockdown and restrictions on the movement of people again.

The Government is receiving requests from various quarters including doctors for imposing lockdown again in Kashmir.

Sources informed KNS Correspondent that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has received feedback from all deputy Commissioners and heads of health institutions regarding the surge in the cases and has forwarded it to Government.

Sources added that LG and other advisors are going to take a call on reimposing of lockdown in the next 24 hours.

When KNS asked Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole whether Government is reimposing a lockdown in Kashmir, he said, “We took note of the rising number of cases. Government will take a call on the issue. Whenever any decision will be taken, it will be shared with media.”

Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Choudhary told KNS a comprehensive study review of the situation was conducted and also obtained feedback from stakeholders and domain experts.

"In view of the emerging situation authorities have strongly appealed the people to observe norms of mandatory wearing of masks , maintaining physical distance and personal hygience apart from other precautions to avoid the spread of COVID-19, in absence of which a situation may arise prompting stringent restrictions. The situation is being monitored closely on daily basis."

Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation Chairman Muhammad Yasin Khan also extended the support to the Government in case it decides to reimpose lockdown.
President Doctors Association Kashmir Dr Nisar Ul Hassan had advocated for reimposing the lockdown.
He had said that Government should ensure lockdown of a few weeks with immediate effect to prevent further spread and further deaths.
The government on Friday informed that 387 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), 97 from Jammu division and 290 from Kashmir division, have been reported thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 9888. Also, 05 COVID-19 deaths have been reported; 01 from Jammu division and 04 from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 91 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 35 from Jammu Division and 56 from Kashmir Division.
According to the daily Media Bulletin of Friday on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 9888 positive cases, 3943 are Active Positive, 5786 have recovered and 159 have died; 15 in Jammu division and 144 in Kashmir division.(KNS)
