Arrest of mother-daughter duo from Srinagar shows levels of intolerance: Tarigami

Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNS): CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday said the arrest of mother-daughter duo from Srinagar outskirts on the allegations of raising slogans shows the level of intolerance within the incumbent administration in Jammu and Kashmir

In a statement issued to KNS, Tarigami said that the administration is feeling threatened even by women and the latest incident is a clear example of it. “The increasing intolerance by the government against any form of dissent in Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of serious concern,” he said.

“The prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir is an undeclared emergency and the current silence at gunpoint cannot be considered as normalcy. Such is the situation that even freedom of expression has been snatched from people. There is a huge deployment of security forces and there are restrictions everywhere. It is a brazen violation of the fundamental rights of people,” CPI(M) leader said.

“Instead of reaching out to the people, the BJP government is using every type of force to ensure silence which is not just sad but dangerous for democracy,” he added. (KNS)
