APHC expresses anguish over plight of Gujjars and Bakerwals in Jammu

Srinagar, Jan 13 (KNS): All Parties Hurriyat conference on Thursday demanded the release of Sajad Gul, who was arrested a few days ago for doing his “duty” and stated that policy of intimidation through arrests and detentions be stopped.

APHC, in a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that such harassment of scribes has become a routine in the Valley.

APHC also expressed anguish at the plight of those Gujjars and Bakewals in Jammu who have been forcibly removed from their dwellings of 8 decades during a demolition drive.

“As per the statement given to press by those displaced, they were given not prior notice about it and have in mid-winter and at a time when the pandemic is once again spreading fast been rendered without a roof,” reads the statement.

APHC also said that while outsiders are being incentivised to buy land and property in J&K to change its demographics, it is very unfortunate that Jammu and Kashmir’s own citizens are being displaced and rendered homeless. (KNS)
