Ansari’s greets people on the Birthday of Imam Ali AS

Srinagar, Feb 5 (KNS): Extending warm greetings to Muslim Ummah on the birth anniversary of Imam Hazrat Ali (AS) President All J&K Shia Association & JKPC Senior General Secretary, Molvi Imran Reza Ansari speaking today at Imam Bargah Khushipora (HMT) said that the Birthday of Imam Ali (AS) signifies the strength and knowledge with reverence in Islam and this day is being observed every year on the 13th day of Rajab, the seventh month according to the Islamic calendar. This year, the birthday of Ali ibn Abu Talib (AS) or Hazrat Ali (AS) falls on February 5th across the world.


Molvi Imran said that Imam Ali (AS) was born in 599 AD in the precincts of the Kaaba's holy sanctuary in Mecca, the most sacred place, according to Islam. The birthday depends on the lunar calendar of the Islam community. He said Imam Ali (AS) ruled till the year 661 and was martyred by a lethal injury on his head by a poisonous sword at the Great Mosque of Kufa, which is located in Iraq to the present day.

Ansari added that Imam Ali (AS) is held in very high regard in the Muslim community and his birthday is celebrated across countries with great fervour. Hazrat Ali (AS) is believed to be the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) and is considered the first Imam by the Shia Muslim community while Sunnis too consider him as fourth Caliph and celebrate him as an upright ruler of Islam.

On this day, Muslims across the world deck up and decorate Mosques and Khankahs with bright lights in which devotees gather for prayer, and learn about Imam Ali's (AS) role in the propagation of Islam. 

General Secretary All J&k Shia Association while extending greetings to Muslim Ummah said that Imam Ali (AS) is respected for his knowledge, courage, belief, honesty, deep loyalty to Prophet Muhammad (SAWW), unbending devotion to Islam and equal treatment of all Muslims. He (Imam Ali AS) was also known for his generosity since he believed in forgiving his defeated enemies (KNS)
