Amarnath Yatra 2023: Army Deploys Anti-Drone Teams and Bomb Squads

Srinagar, July 01(KNS): The Army on Saturday said that it upgraded security measures for the Amarnath Yatra 2023, with the inclusion of quadcopters, night vision devices (NVDs), anti-drone teams, and bomb squads.

The security system aims to provide round-the-clock monitoring of both routes and prioritize quick evacuation in case of emergencies. Additional facilities have been implemented to ensure a smooth and peaceful pilgrimage.

According to Commander 1 Sector RR Amandeep Malhi, quadcopters and NVDs are being used for continuous surveillance along the route to the cave shrine. In addition to the Army, Central forces and police have been deployed in higher reaches. The soldiers have been instructed to minimize inconvenience to the locals during the Yatra. Mountain and avalanche rescue teams are also present to handle any unforeseen circumstances. This year, quick and effective response teams, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have conducted joint drills to ensure timely response to natural calamities.

At Baltal, 3 Sector Commander Atul Rajput stated that a multi-level security grid has been established for the Amarnath Yatra. Surveillance devices, NVDs, anti-drone teams, and bomb squads have been deployed along the route to provide continuous surveillance. Tenting facilities and emergency helipads are in place for the evacuation of pilgrims during emergencies. Civil agencies, J&K police, CRPF, ITBP, and other security agencies have participated in mock drills, including mountain and avalanche rescue operations.

Earth-moving equipment has been positioned in forward areas due to the previous year's natural calamity. The Army is maintaining regular communication with the locals, considering their suggestions valuable. The safe return of the last pilgrim is a priority for the Army.(KNS).
