Srinagar, 31 May (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader and youth provincial vice president Kashmir Ahsan Pardesi expressed concern over the plight of unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir and sought monthly allowance to them through direct cash schemes, saying the measure will help they evade anxiety and meet their daily expenses as well.
Stressing on the dire need of announcing an unemployment allowance for the educated unemployed youth, Pardesi said even after the long Gap of 21 months of announcing a job extravaganza in Jammu and Kashmir, the touted dream is yet to see the light of the day.

According to a statement issued to Kashmir news service (KNS), He said the subsequent clampdowns and Covid induced lockdowns have already curtailed the job opportunities in the tourism and transport sectors. Last but not least, he said the subsequent Covid induced curbs and lockdowns have further resulted in job losses and stagnation of various other vocations leaving the unemployed youth in utter despair. The situation, he said calls for minimum financial support to such educated and skilled unemployed youth. He further added that the youth in absence of any meaningful employment activity will take to other delinquent activities and drug abuse.

“Similar schemes have also been doled out by various state governments across the length and breadth of the country. Having such a policy in place, particularly during the ongoing crisis will save the jobless from penury and mental anxiety. The move will also enable job-seekers to maintain consumption while spending more time searching for a job matching their skills. It is expected that the incumbent government will consider an inclusive direct cash transfer scheme t unemployed degree, and diploma holders, the move will provide respite, not just to them but to the Lacs of families associated with them. Being unemployed has various stigmas associated with it, it not only affects an individual but the whole family economically, socially and psychologically. Therefore making it more imperative for government to act upon,” he said.

In J&K, the issue of unemployment becomes more serious as the private sector, which is said to absorb the unemployed youth hasn’t emerged, he said adding that the sluggish rate of recruitment by PSC, and JKSSB has further compounded the woes of uneducated youth. The situation,
he underscored if persists will eventually lead to a catastrophe. “It is expected that the incumbent administration will speed up the recruitment process and make entrepreneurship more lucrative,” he said.

He also drew the attention of the Administration towards filling the post of Information assistants, PROs in every department. He also impressed upon the government to engage unemployed medical and Paramedical graduates to make good of the deficiency in PHCs, TB centres and other secondary and tertiary health care centres.(KNS)
