Ahead Of G20 Summit Security Beefed Up Around SKICC

Srinagar, May 20(KNS): Security has been increased around the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar for the upcoming G-20 working group meeting on tourism.

 
An official said that the Elite NSG and marine commandos, along with police, CRPF, and other paramilitary forces personnel, have been deployed to ensure the smooth and secure progression of this high-profile event.
 
As part of the security preparations, marine commandos conducted a thorough sanitization exercise in the renowned Dal Lake, inspecting houseboats and patrolling the water body on 'shikaras'.
 
He said that a similar exercise was carried out by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos in the Lal Chowk area of the city, accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF personnel. 
 
He also said that the drills are part of a comprehensive security plan aimed at preventing any untoward incidents during the G-20 event, which will be hosted in Kashmir from May 22 to 24.
 
"Stringent security measures include thorough checks of vehicles entering the city, the establishment of a three-layer security setup, anti-drone mechanisms, and the declaration of a no-drone zone," the official said.
 
He further said that the city has undergone preparations to provide a grand and welcoming atmosphere for the delegates attending the key meeting. 
 
Srinagar's routes, expected to be used by foreign delegates, have been enhanced, and projects prioritized under the Srinagar Smart City initiative have been completed.
 
 Meanwhile, the police in Kashmir have issued a public advisory regarding suspicious international mobile numbers allegedly being utilized to spread rumors about the G-20 meeting in the Valley.(KNS)
