ActionAid’s YUW win prize in Mental Health Awareness Mega Event ‘Relive Kashmir’

Srinagar: Five team members of ActionAid Association(AAA) Kashmir’s Young Urban Women (YUW) Srinagar Collective won a prize in food stalls in a mega-event on Mental Health Awareness organized by Ereignis Management, here in Kashmir Haat on Sunday. The event was sponsored by government departments, local media outlets and restaurants based in Srinagar.
The YUW leaders of the Srinagar collective expressed their joy for the opportunity that helped them show their cooking skills and be recognized among hundreds of people in the event.
YUW Chef in the stall, Rumina expressing her gratitude said, “This event has boosted our confidence manifold to start our own food venture, we are thankful to AAA for giving us the opportunity and Ereignis Management for recognizing our effort and declaring us the winning team. We look forward to more such events where we get to explore our potential, said in a statement issued to KNS.(Kashmir News Service).
The YUWs participated and won for the first time in a mega- event organized in Srinagar where scores of food, clothing, art, photography stalls were competing with each other. The leaders sold out all their dishes before other food stalls for two consecutive days on December 12 and 13.
The women leaders reached out to hundreds of people participating in the event under AA’s banner of ending gender based violence. The team members through their food stall made people aware about the YUW project in Srinagar. The team also talked to various participants about AAA’s 16 days of activism on ending gender-based violence. The participants in the program also signed a pledge banner on ending gendered violence, through which they also reached out with the YUW message to more people in the event.
Project Officer AAA Kashmir Nadiya Habib added, “It is important that we give public spaces to our women collectives in YUW program which gives them confidence to be leaders and change makers in the society. Participation and the win in this event has instilled high spirits among these YUW leaders and AAA will continue supporting these women in all the ways possible.”
Various artists, singers, calligraphers and mental health experts performed and conducted their sessions in the event.(KNS)
