‘No one should link the gruesome crime to victim’s religion’

Srinagar, Apr 20 (KNS): The Samanbal members of Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu linked to Ehsaas staged protest demonstrations in all three regions of the State to protest the gruesome rape and murder of an eight-year-old Gujjar girl of Kathua, and the latest spree of rapes in places like Surat and Unnao, and across India.
Staging protests in Srinagar, the Samanbal members said the rape and murder of the child was brutal and that everyone having a human heart ought to come out in support for justice.
They also said no one should link the gruesome crime to victim’s religion.
Noted academicians Neerja Mattoo and Nusrat Andrabi, Maria Hearty, a business woman, Asha Ji, a Sarpanch from Tangmarg, noted broadcaster Ruksana Jabeen, Pallavi Sachdeva, and women from across Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh also condemned the brutal rape of the child and those occurring across India.
Speaking on the occasion, Ehsaas Chairperson, Ezabir Ali said the rape and murder of the eight-year-old child of Kathua had shocked not only people of Kashmir but entire world with people expressing outrage on social media as well as by coming out to stage protest demonstrations.
Samanbal is a social space created by Ehsaas for women to discuss their issues with one another and in association with Ehsaas.
Ehsaas created a Samanbal for the women in Kashmir while similar groups were created in Kargil and Leh areas of the cold desert region of Ladakh, and Jammu, the winter capital of the State.
The Samanbal members of all the three regions also condemned the rapes happening across India and said that there was a need to speak up against the gruesome crime.
The Samanbal in Ladakh is called a Zomsa and that of Jammu, a Pangath.
The Zomsa members in Kargil area of Ladakh staged protest rallies for two consecutive days and demanded justice in the brutal rape and murder case.
Similarly, in Jammu, Pangath members staged a protest outside Bahu Plaza and condemned the brutal rape of the eight-year-old and the rapes in Surat and Unnao.
The Samanbal members of Jammu, Kargil and Leh said that the rape of the eight-year-old Gujjar girl was not a rape of any particular community or religion but of the entire humanity and that everyone having a human heart should condemn it in strong terms.
They said similar rapes in Surat and Unnao were a cause of concern for the entire society. (KNS)
