Srinagar 30th Nov(KNS): The Postgraduate Department of Ophthalmology, SKIMS Medical College and Hospital , Bemina conducted a one-day CME programme on keratoconus and collagen cross-linking today.
Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department joined online, as chief guest of the event.
Director SKIMS & Principal SKIMS MC Prof. M. Ashraf Patron of the event congratulated the department for organising the event to create awareness about the common disorder prevalent in the Kashmir region.
The guest speaker Dr. Ritu Arora, Head Shroff’s Eye Centre, New Delhi apprised the audience about the disease and its treatment.
The experts highlighted that keratoconus is a common, progressive ectatic corneal disorder that particularly affects young individuals.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIn kashmir valley, the disease has a high incidence due to many patients suffering from allergic disorders and if left untreated will lead to visual disability. Collagen cross-linking is a non-invasive treatment modality that halts the progression of this disease. SKIMS MCH is the only government facility that provides the service of collagen cross-linking free of cost in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.
The CME was conducted by the Department under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad, Professor and head Department of Ophthalmology and co-organised by Prof. Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone with active participation from Dr. Nusrat Shaheen and Dr. Wasim Rashid and the resident staff of the department.The event was attended by all Ophthalmologists of the Kashmir Valley, besides faculty & other staff members of the college.(KNS).
