Srinagar, 16th Sep 25: Senior General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) and President of the All J&K Shia Association, Molvi Imran Ansari, today expressed deep concern over the continued closure of the Srinagar–Jammu highway, terming it a severe blow to Kashmir’s economy and livelihoods.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Molvi Imran Ansari said:
“The Srinagar: Jammu highway is not just a road, it is Kashmir’s economic backbone. Since August 26 it has remained blocked due to landslides and floods. Thousands of trucks carrying apples and essential supplies are stranded, causing losses of ?600–700 crore to orchard owners already. This is not politics, this is livelihoods at stake.”
He questioned the inaction of the National Conference and its Members of Parliament who were recently elected with strong mandates.
“Why hold press conferences in Srinagar?Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWhy not go to Delhi, use your seats in Parliament, sit in protest if needed, and push for urgent action? If the Centre must act, press them. If the local government has a role, let the CM and MLAs take the front seat. Passing the ball back & forth is not leadership.”
Molvi Imran Ansari stressed the need for immediate alternative measures to protect Kashmir’s economy, including the use of air cargo, railway networks, and alternate road links.
“Our farmers are crying, our transporters are stuck, and our shopkeepers are struggling. Enough of statements. It is time for action.”
The Srinagar–Jammu highway, closed since August 26 due to landslides and flash floods, has left the Valley cut off from vital supplies and markets. Fruit growers, especially apple farmers, are among the worst hit, with heavy losses reported across the sector.
