‘Faculty Development Programme on Inclusive Education’ concludes under Samagra Shiksha

SRINAGAR, MAY 31 (KNS): A virtual 8-day‘ Faculty Development Programme on Inclusive Education’ conducted in association with the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Secunderabad, using the platform of Jammu and Kashmir Knowledge Network, concluded here today.

The programme, which was aimed at providing advance training on ‘Intellectual Disability and ‘Autism’ through expert faculty members of NIEPID, was conducted as a part of Inclusive Education Intervention wherein all the Special Educators and Resource Persons working under Samagra Shiksha J&K participated.

During the event, interactive technical sessions were conducted on various sub-themes like self-help skills training for persons with Intellectual Disabilities, Psycho-educational Assessment of Persons with Intellectual Disability and Teaching Subjects (Pedagogy) to Persons with Intellectual Disability, Promoting speech in children with Intellectual Disability, Understanding Parental Responses to Challenges of Caring for CWID, Vocational Aspects, Schemes for  Benefits and Concessions for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, Early Identification and Assessment of ASD, Developmental Disabilities and Co-morbid conditions, Educational Strategies for Children with ASD, Language and communication skills in children with ASD, Sensory Processing Dysfunction and Sensory Integration, Parenting in Children with ASD and use of ICT for children with ASD.

Director, Samagra Shiksha, Deep Raj, while speaking during the valedictory session, revealed that under Inclusive Education 72 resource rooms have been established in all the districts of J&K and trained Special Educators, as well as Resource Persons, have been engaged to cater to educational needs of Children with Special Needs. Recently, under Samagra Shiksha, a fresh survey has also been initiated for the identification of CwSN in all the districts, he added. He said that identification shall also be conducted through a mobile-based application ‘Talaash’ being developed jointly by Samagra Shiksha and UNICEF.

Director urged upon the participants to administer the skills acquired through this programme in the field for better uplift of CwSN. He also asked them to pass on the skill and knowledge to general line teachers working in different districts.

The programme coordinator from NIPEID, Professor Ankita Sahaye, briefed that their organization is working extensively for the betterment of persons with disabilities across the country. She apprised that NIEPID is an Autonomous Body under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. She assured future collaborations with their organization for conducting research activities in the field of Inclusive Education in J&K.(KNS)
