Srinagar, March 19 (KNS): J&K Awami National Conference Senior Vice President Muzaffar Shah on Wednesday emphatically welcomed the emerging thaw in India-Iran relations, as the first consignment of Indian medical aid successfully reached Tehran marking not just a humanitarian gesture, but a decisive moment of strategic recalibration amid intensifying regional volatility.
Positioning the development as both morally significant and geopolitically prudent, Muzaffar Shah stated, “This is not merely a shipment of medical supplies but it is India reaffirming its civilizational commitment to humanity, dignity and responsible global conduct even in times of war and uncertainty.”
At the heart of his remarks was a strong assertion of Kashmir’s moral voice during Iran’s recent crisis. Muzaffar Shah did not mince words saying “It is the people of India, especially Kashmir and its entire leadership, who showed the spine and visited the Iranian embassy to express solidarity over the martyrdom of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.”
He added with pointed clarity, “The silence which Kashmir broke remained in the national interest as it was a statement to the world that India’s people do not endorse aggression against sovereign nations.”
Driving the discourse firmly into the domain of hard strategy, Muzaffar Shah warned against diplomatic hesitation divorced from ground realities.

“When our people face shortages of LPG and petrol, sentiment cannot replace strategy. The warming of India-Iran ties is not optional but an economic and energy imperative.”
Underscoring the stakes, Muzaffar Shah highlighted the criticality of secure maritime corridors, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, calling recent safe passage of Indian vessels a “reassuring but fragile signal.”
“Any disruption in these lifelines directly translates into pressure on every Indian household. Stability here is not abstract but deeply personal for our citizens,” he cautioned.
Framing the moment as a test of diplomatic maturity, Muzaffar Shah concluded with a call for sustained, calculated engagement.
“India must rise above reactive posturing and invest in consistent, interest-driven diplomacy with Iran. Humanitarian outreach must evolve into long-term strategic partnership because in today’s world, restraint, clarity and courage define real leadership.” (KNS)
