“Hopeful of getting justice”: Omar Abdullah as Supreme Court hears petition against Article 370 abrogation

 Srinagar, Aug 02(KNS): The Supreme Court of india on Wednesday began its hearing on a series of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir. 

 
Headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, a five-judge constitution bench will conduct daily hearings, except on Mondays and Fridays, to deliberate on the matter.
 
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal will lead the arguments on behalf of the petitioners opposing the abrogation. The Chief Justice clarified that the lead counsel will present arguments on all aspects, while other counsels can contribute to avoid overlapping arguments.
 
In response to the case, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah expressed hope for justice, stating that they aim to prove the unconstitutionality and illegality of the events that occurred on August 5, 2019, in Delhi.
 
"We are hopeful of getting justice. We are here on behalf of the people of J&K with the hope that we can prove that what happened on August 5, 2019 was unconstitutional and illegal," he said.
 
Supreme Court will hear a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories, today.
