IGP Kashmir visits downtown Sgr, interacts with mourners

Srinagar, Aug 19(KNS): Youm-e-Ashura was observed in several parts of the Kashmir Valley amid restrictions imposed to prevent Muharram processions on Thursday. 

Notibaly, ashura is observed on the 10th day of the Muharram month to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, his family and companions during the 7th century battle of Karbala in present day Iraq.

Eye witnesses told Kashmir news service (KNS), that barbed wires were placed in several parts of Srinagar and budgam to prevent processions taken out on Ashura, however Youm-e-Ashura was observed amid peace across Kashmir. 

They said mourning ceremonies were held across the Valley, where top scholars explained the philosophy of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, and different aspects of the battle of Karbala.

Muharum Procession Alam Sharief commenced from Alipora Bota Kadal after brief religious sermon delivered by President All J& K Shia Association Molvi Imran Reza Ansari joined by General Secretary Abid Hussain Ansari headed towards Imam-bargah Zadibal through main road via Alamgaribazar, Gassipora which was later concluded at Historical Imambargah Zadibal in the evening.

Similarly, 10th Moharram processions was taken out in Chittergul Anantnag where huge number of Shia community mourners participated in processions, where later a blood donation camp was organized in the venue. 

Muharram procession also held on the tenth day of Islamic month of Muharram in sadpora sopore and Ganderbal areas the valley. 

During the first 10 days of Muharram, Muslims, especially Shiites, mourn the martyrdom of grandson of Prophet Muhammad, Imam Hussain, his family and companions by holding several religious functions. 

Meanwhile, senior police officers including IGP Kashmir Sh Vijay Kumar interacted with Muhram processionists after he visited down town Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir police informed on it's official Twitter handle. 

"Water and refreshment point set up by J&K Police at Zadibal, Srinagar for people participating in Muharram processions, " it said. (KNS).
