Srinagar, Jun 21 (KNS) : Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Education, Sakina Itoo, on Sunday described yoga as a "solution" to the trauma of prolonged conflict and the rising drug addiction among the youth, while making a strong pitch for its integration into daily life.
Speaking at the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Minister Itoo as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the Union Territory has witnessed "difficult times for many years" which has led to "a lot of depression" among the people.
"Our youth have seen a lot of problems. But by doing yoga, and by including it in your daily life, you can get rid of those problems. If you really want to be physically or mentally fit, yoga can give you all these benefits," the minister said.
Expressing concern over the "drug epidemic" in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister Itoo, however, said the administration, including the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister, has worked effectively over the last 18-19 months to contain the menace.

"I think we have got a lot of relief. But for this too, yoga is very important. If we want to get rid of this problem from the country and from Jammu and Kashmir, yoga can help you remain happy and fit in every way," she added.
The minister also underscored the importance of yoga for students, asserting that it can help children stay focused on their education and not "lag behind" during difficult times.
"If there is a solution to this, if there is a way to do this, then you can do it through yoga," she said.
Minister Itoo lauded the Ayush Department and health officials for their arrangements and thanked the Lieutenant Governor for gracing the occasion.
"I would like to hope that we will include yoga in our daily lives so that we can be mentally and physically fit," she said, extending her greetings to all. (KNS)
