Tuberculosis awareness programme held at Central Jail Srinagar

Srinagar, July 04:(KNS) An awareness camp on Tuberculosis was organized at Central Jail Srinagar in collaboration with District Tuberculosis Control Society, Srinagar. During the camp, inmates and staff were sensitized about the mode of transmission, symptoms and treatment of tuberculosis. The camp was attended by District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Tehjeena Jamil, Consultant Dr. Syed Afaq Jalali, Medical Officer Dr. Shagufta Shahin, Senior Treatment Supervisor Ishfaq Ahmad besides Sr Superintendent, Central Jail Srinagar- T. R. Katoch and other officers. Dr. Shagufta Shahin apprised inmates about prevention and treatment of Tuberculosis. She also spoke about the TB-free India Campaign launched by the Hon’ble PM Sh. Narendra Modi for total elimination of Tuberculosis by 2025. Dr. Tehjeena Jamil, DTO Srinagar and Dr. Syed Afaq Jalali, Consultant informed the gathering about Tuberculosis and its advanced management which includes specialized and advanced testing facility CB-NAAT. They also informed regarding free testing and medicines for TB and financial assistance under the Poshan Yojna. T. R. Katoch informed the team about the measures already taken under the supervision of the Medical Officer of the jail, Dr. Mushtaq Baba for prevention of TB and thanked the team for organizing the awareness camp.(KNS)
