Truck loaded with LPG cylinders catches fire in Udhampur


Jammu, May 29, (KNS): The vehicular movement on 270-km long Jammu Srinagar highway on Friday suspended temporarily after a truck loaded with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders caught fire resulting loud bangs of explosion sounded in Tikri area of Udhampur district.
Officials told KNS that a truck on way to Srinagar was parked on highway side when it suddenly caught fire and flames engulfed the entire vehicle.
“Before fire tenders approached the spot, the LPG cylinders caught fire and started to explode”, he said and added “Within half-an-hour several LPG cylinders blasted with loud bangs that rattled the adjoining Tikri area of Udhampur district”.
Rajiv Pandey, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur told media that the truck was parked on highway side when it caught fire and all cylinders started to explode.
SSP said that the vehicle and cylinders loaded into the truck got fully damaged with no loss of life. However he maintained that situation over the highway is completely under control.
When asked about the disruption of vehicular movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway, SSP informed that traffic movement has been suspended temporarily and shall be restored soon (KNS)
