Srinagar 09 April (KNS): Seven militants were killed in two separate Gunfights  South Kashmir’s Pulwama and shopian Districts , including Imtiaz Shah, the supreme commander of Ansar al-Ghazwa al-Hind.

Police Official told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that  there as they got specific inputs about presence of millitants, personnels from the Special Operations Group (SOG Tral), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Army 42 RR were deployed in the Nowbugh Tral area of Pulwama and searches were launched.

“As the security forces launched an operation, the militants opened fire while trying to escape, however, the security personnel retaliated quickly and thwarted the militants' attempt.The besieged millitants hid in a bunker in an orchard Which the security forces destroyed in retaliation”, he added.

Jammu and Kashmir police confirmed the deaths of two militants in a tweet So far, however, only Imtiyaz Shah, the top commander of the Ansar Ghazwa-ul-Hind militant Outfit, has been identified.

Talking to Kashmir News Service regarding Shopian Encounter Senior Police official said that on Thursday, the forces had received a specific input that there were four to five militants in Jan Mohalla of Shopian district, including Imtiyaz Ahmed, the commander-in-chief of Ansar Ghazwa-ul-Hind.

“Immediately after receiving inputs about the presence of militants, personnel belonging to 44 RR, 14th Battalion of CRPF and Special Operations Group of Police cordoned off the Jan Mohalla area of Shopian at 1.30 pm on Thursday. A house-to-house search operation was launched after the blockade was imposed on all sides of the settlement and at 3:45 pm, firing started between the two sides”,he added.

He also said that, Five militants were killed and five others, including an army major, were injured in the encounter that started on Thursday in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
Four of the militants killed during the operation, which lasted for about 20 hours, were identified as Muhammad Younis Khandey, a resident of Tral, Muzammil Tantray, a resident of Ramangri Shopian, Basit Ahmed Ramangri Shopian and Adil Khandey, a resident of Kasipora Shopian. However, the identity of the fifth militant has not yet been revealed. All five were said to belong to the militant group Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

Inspector General of police while aaddressing a press conference at police control room Srinagar said that, in these two separate encounters, one at Jan Mohalla, Shopian and another at Nowbugh, Tral in Pulwama district, seven militants including AGH chief Imtiyaz Shah, who was active since April 2019, was killed.

“In shopian encounter, the militants took shelter in Masjid and We allowed the Moulvi of the local masjid to persuade militants to surrender twice in the night. Brother of a militant was also brought and his request for surrender was also turned down. We brought parents of militants in the morning, but militants refused to surrender”,he added.

The police chief also said that maintaining sanctity of the masjid, no explosives and grenades were used and the place of worship suffered very minimum damage.(KNS)
