Three militants killed in Hokarsar gunfight: IGP Kashmir


Srinagar, Dec 30 (KNS): Police on Wednesday claimed to have killed three militants in an overnight encounter in Hokarsar area of Central Kashmir's Srinagar district district.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed to KNS that three militants have been nuetralized in Hokarsar gunfight that broke out on Tuesday late night along Srinagar Baramulla highway.

IGP also said that the identity of the killed militants is yet to be ascertained while anti-militancy operation in the area is stil in place.

Security forces on late Tuesday night suspended the operation due to darkness whileas the decisive action against hiding militants was resumed on Wednesday morning.

Notably Special Operation Group of J&K Police, Army's 2 RR and CRPF jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the area on Tuesday after recieving specific inputs about presence of militants in the area. Soon joint forces established the contact, the hiding militants fired upon, triggerring gunfight in the area.

The vehicular movement from Sopore, Baramulla and Gulmarg areas towards Srinagar was also diverted via Magam - Budgam road due to security reasons. (KNS)
