Thousands of Kashmiris now exposed to unemployment and connected hardships in Kolkata; struggle to reach Kashmir: Soz

Srinagar, May 17 (KNS): Senior congress leader and former union minister professor Saif u Din Soz on Monday in a statement issued to KNS said “I established contact with the Kashmiris now struggling to return from Kolkata and other places in West Bengal to their homes in Kashmir.
Two leaders Haji Mohammad Yaqoob (M. No. 9330977032) and Firdous Ahmad (M. No.7889366150) talked to me from Kolkata and narrated their tales of suffering due to unemployment caused by the Corona Virus.
They explained their hardships but emphasized the most urgent need for transportation for their return to homes in Kashmir, as early as possible.
In this connection, I wrote strongly to Shri. G.C. Murmu, Hon’ble Lt. Governor of J&K Union Territory and strongly urged him to ensure transport to about 6000 Kashmiris now stranded in West Bengal, particularly, in Kolkata.
I further urged the Lt. Governor to facilitate early contact with the Stranded Kashmiris and ensure that they reach Srinagar, at the earliest, and not get stranded anywhere on way to Srinagar.
I also spoke to Editor of widely circulated Daily Telegraph (Kolkata) Mr. Raja Gopal and urged him to highlight the plight of Kashmiri Shawl vendors and others and render support to their struggle to reach home, as early as possible.” (KNS)
