Those circulating fake letter of Geelani, will be taken to task: Police

Srinagar, July 07 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said those circulating fake letter of Syed Ali Shah Geelani will be taken to task and clarified that same has been published from Pakistan.

Taking on to the micro blogging twitter, Police said that "As per the family sources of SAS Geelani the letter is fake and not issued by him. This is published from Pakistan. Police is taking action against those who are circulating it through different social media platforms to instigate violence and create L&O problems".

Notably on Monday late night a purported letter from senior pro-freedom leader Syed Ali Geelani hit the social media and went viral. According to letter, Geelani urged people to observe complete shutdown on July 8, the martyrdom day of Hizb Commander Burhan Wani and on July 13, which was being oberseved as Martyrs Day at state level before New Delhi stripped special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 & 35(A). Police while quoting family sources of SAS Geelani, stated the letter has been published from Pakistan. (KNS)
