Theft attempt foiled in Kulgam; Cattle thief arrested: Police


Srinagar, July 27 (KNS): Kulgam police on Monday claimed to have foiled an theft attempt and have arrested cattle thief in Devsar area of South Kashmir.
According to police, During the intervening night of 26/27 July 2020, Kulgam police received a distress call from the local residents of Gassiran village of Kulgam district that they have apprehended a cattle thief namely Javaid Ahmad Ganie resident of Monvij Kakapora while he was carrying a stolen cow during late night hours.
Police party headed by SHO Devsar instantly swung into action, rushed to the spot and arrested the accused person. In the meanwhile, locals of the area acted bravely and caught hold of the person. He has been shifted to PS Devsar where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 78/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police station Devsar. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
Community members have applauded the efforts made by the Kulgam Police. We assure community members that police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in criminal activities. (KNS)
