Srinagar-Ladakh highway closed for traffic due to adverse weather conditions

Ganderbal November 23 (KNS):Hundreds of vehicles on both sides of the 434-km Srinagar-Ladakh highway closed due to fresh snowfall at Shahra-e-Afaq tourist spot Sonamarg.

According to the News agency-Kashmir News Service(KNS), a series of rains and snowfall has started in the tourist destinations of Sonamarg, Zojila, Dras, Kargil and its suburbs from midnight on Sunday results in the srinagar-Ladakh highway has been closed for traffic as a precaution.


A traffic police officer told KNS that,due to fresh snowfall, hundreds of vehicles have been stranded at Sonamarg and Kargil Dras.The Border Roads organization has continued to remove snow from Sonamarg and Zojila.

It should be noted that after the tension between India and China over the LAC of Ladakh, all the machinery has been kept active to keep the Srinagar-Ladakh highway open during winter this year.

DSP Ganderbal Faim Ali told KNS that,as a result of fresh snowfall, one hundred and fifteen vehicles were stranded in Sonamarg while all passenger and freight vehicles coming from Srinagar to Ladakh were stopped at Gagangir.

Shopkeepers and employees of government departments in Sonamarg said that,drinking water, electricity and BSNL mobile towers were shut down due to which they were facing severe difficulties here.(KNS)
