SMC to start Animal Birth Control,Anti Rabies Vaccination programme for  population management of Stray dogs in city

Srinagar 04 April (KNS): In order to manage the growing population of stray dogs in the city, Srinagar Municipal Corporation will be launching a massive Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabbies Vaccination programme (ABC&ARV)for sterilization of 75 % of stray dog population in Srinagar city.
 
This will be done in compliance to  the Guidelines set forth by Animal Welfare Board of India under  Animal Birth Control (Dog )rules 2001.
 
The ABC ARV in Srinagar  will be done through experienced professional agencies/organizations. 
 
 
Management of Stray dogs is a major challenge in Srinagar city, Srinagar Municipal Corporation has initiated Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabies Vaccination (ABC&ARV) of 75% of city’s dog population will be done in accordance with the Animal Welfare Board of India guidelines and the Animal Birth C said Commissioner SMC Mr Athar Aamir.
 
 
The programme has been finalised with inputs from SKAUST-K, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine GMC Srinagar and members of civil society and non-governmental Organizations further added Commissioner SMC.
 
2.SMC launches Sunday for Srinagar Campaign at DoodGanga canal.
 
SMC launched  an extensive cleanliness drive at DoodhGanga under the Campaign 'Sundays for Srinagar'.
 
The drive was taken up in Doodhganga water channel connecting river Jhelum from ChattaKadal Chattabal .
 
Atleast  200 sanitation workers  equipped with required tools/ equipments were engaged to clear tons of accumulated garbage.
 
Besides clearing garbage  an awareness campaign was also launched and  the residents were requested  to refrain from littering the water channel.
 
People from various walks joined the drive.Besides Volunteers from different fields, the NGO's also participated on the occasion.
 
 Commissioner SMC Mr Athar Amir Khan who along with other senior officers of Corporation including Joint Commissioner Adm Syed Abul Qasim was a part of the drive encouraged and appreciated all the volunteers including SMC teteam and has made an appeal to the people to join us in the  sunday for Srinagar campaign.
