SKIMS turns Covid-19 hot spot area, Covid-19 positives repeatedly lodged in Emergency Unit

Srinagar, July 30 (KNS): Shocking reports are coming from SKIMS where authorities have kept Covid-19 positive patients along with non-Covid-19 patients, triggering panic among general patients, attendants and visitors as well.
Sources told KNS that SKIMS has become a super-spreader of Covid-19 pandemic as general and Covid-19 positive patients are being kept along in emergency ward repeatedly. They added dozens of Covid-19 positive patients were found when senior doctors made a routine round of the emergency unit on July 29.
They added that Department of Emergency Medicine, SKIMS has communicated to Director SKIMS A G Ahanger in this regard and sought complete isolation of Covid-19 positive patients from general patients and their attendants. They further added during the round doctors found violation of SOPs and social distancing where only 2 meter distance has been maintained between patients.
Proffessor & Head Emergency Medicine, SKIMS Dr Showkat Ali Mufti, in a letter No. SIMS/192-01-2020-544-46 Dated 29/07/2020 addressed to Director SKIMS A G Ahangar reads “At present, after rounds today on 29th July, 2020, I found 14 confirmed positive patients in the close space of emergency along with other 60 patients and their attendants. The space between couches is less than 2 feet and it has become easy to spread this deadly disease among other people/staff there”, reads a letter which is in possession of KNS.
The letter further reads, “I could see the panic among the patients and attendants as the positive results of Covid positive patients are pouring in. Some urgent intervention needs to be done”.
Meanwhile sources told KNS that the current mess and mismanagement of the hospital towards dealing with Covid-19 pandemic is going to be a disaster not for the hospital only but the negligence will engulf the community as well in days to come. They added the hospital has become a Covid-19 hot spot area but despite of repeated complaints to higher ups, no action was taken so far.
Earlier there were reports of breakdown in oxygen supply in the hospital which created panic among critical patients and their attendants. Besides the hospital administration few days ago did prank to Covid-19 patients who were in dire need of awareness. The hospital in its website uploaded a link for awareness proved prank when a user went through e-tendering notice after doing a click on it. However the repeated mismanagement attempts by the hospital administration is being refuted brazenly and dubbed as “yellow journalism”. (KNS)
