Inaugurates weeklong workshop on ‘research methodology in literary studies’

 

Ganderbal, Nov 2:(KNS) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir Monday said the scholars pursuing research in any subject or field should be very well versed with the tools and techniques used in research methodology in order to produce quality research.

Addressing the participants, both offline and online during the inauguration of one-week national e-workshop on “Research Methodology in Literary Studies,” organised by the Department of English, at varsity’s Green Campus here, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir emphasized on ensuring quality research to be encouraged and produced for the future of humanity. “The strict adherence to the ethical values of research cannot be undermined,” he said. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said that research in Indian universities, particularly in the field of humanities is on the weaker side. “The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has already flagged the issue regarding lack of quality research conducted by the universities in India and has underscored the need to make research a thrust area,” he said. While expounding on various complex facets of research, he said the scholars pursuing research in the varsity should not compromise the quality of research it produces.

Speaking on the occasion, Registrar, Prof M Afzal Zargar said that research is an important aspect in the teaching learning process and adopting a proper research methodology is imperative for a successful research. He said that research methodology is important in any research as it is the scientific coding of knowledge for the future generation. He also said that researches of today make the humanity of tomorrow, adding that the outcome of any research should be applicable to the society for its benefit.

Addressing the inaugural event, Director Research and Development, Prof. G M Bhat, said that for producing quality research, the university has to continuously update and upgrade the skills of the researchers. He further underscored the importance of choosing the research topic with good utility and highlighted the role of supervisor about the same.

Dean School of Languages, Prof. Md. Gayasuddin was also present on the occasion.

Coordinator, Department of English, Dr. Ishrat Bashir in her welcome address briefed about the scope and objectives of the workshop. She said the budding research scholars need proper sensitization and awareness before they start working in their respective areas of research and the aim of the workshop was to inculcate the same.

The participants later held a condolence meeting to mourn the demise of Ms Bisma Basharat, research scholar of the Department of Management Studies. The participants also mourned the demise of the mother-in-law of Er. Zahoor Ahmad Najar, Asst Professor, Department of IT and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

Later, Dr. Ihsan ur Rahim Malik proposed the vote of thanks in the function.(KNS)
