Provide ex gratia to damaged house in Chadoora, develop garbage dumping site in Handwara: JKAP

Srinagar, June 20 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) leader Mushtaq Ahmad on Saturday visited the families who suffered extensive damages to their properties due to gusty winds that struck Kathergund Chadoora in Chrar-e-Shareef assembly constituency yesterday.

The JKAP leader visited the family of Mohammad Ayoub Sheikh of Kathergund-Chadoora where uprooted trees and fallen branches caused extensive damages to his house after strong wind struck the village.

Mushtaq urged the district deputy commissioner Budgam to depute a team of revenue officials in order to assess the losses and compensate the family accordingly. “I appeal to the district administration to assess the losses caused by the string winds that created havoc in the area. The administration should assess the losses and pay ex gratia relief to the affected families,” he added.

Meanwhile, JKAP leader Abdul Rashid Bhat has urged the district administration Kupwara to establish a garbage dumping site in Handwara which is a long pending demand of the inhabitants of the town and its adjoining areas.

“The people in Handwara town and its adjoining areas are compelled to throw their garbage in open as there is no dumping site available where the municipal committee can discard that litter,” Bhat said.

He added that in the absence of any dumping site, the town seems to be converting into a dumping yard. “The heaps of garbage have not only become a nuisance but also a threat to the environment. Residents apprehend the foul smell emanating from the garbage scattered in the town can lead to an epidemic,” he observed.

Bhat remarked that the overflowing dustbins and stinking garbage have made the lives of the residents of Handwara town miserable. “I appeal to the authorities concerned to implement the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in letter and in spirit and develop a garbage dumping site in this town at an earliest,” he demanded. Bhat also demanded a public park in the town at the already identified patch of land available in the town. (KNS)
