Srinagar, April 22 (KNS): Prominent panchayat members and political activists hailing from Shopian on Thursday joined Apni Party at its office in Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

The joining ceremony took place in presence of Party Vice President Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Apni Party leader and DDC Vice-Chairperson Shopian Irfan Manhas, District Vice President Shopian Advocate Gowhar and District Secretary Shopian Advocate Tanveer Tak.

The new entrants who joined Apni Party included: Nazir Ahmad Gorsi (Naib Sarpanch Ward 5(A) Patitolihalan, Sedow, Heerpora-Shopian), Mohammad Rafiq Chouhan (Panch Ward 3(B) Sedow-Shopian) and Mohammad Latif Koli.

Welcoming the new entrants into the party-fold, Zaffar Manhas said that Apni Party has always rigorously followed the issues of public interest and has been always raising the voice for the mitigation of the people’s sufferings.

He further said that district Shopian holds an important historical significance and was even once known as ‘Sheen-e-van’ but regrettably due to the impervious attitude of various governments, the district currently lacks basic infrastructure in form of road connectivity, health centres and power transmission lines.

“Th road connectivity remains deplorable due to which daily commuters have to suffer immensely. Time and again the villages have to face electric blackouts along with sporadic water supply,” he said.

He further urged the administration to devise a comprehensive policy in order to make district Shopian a model district.

“The district Shopian is also home to superior grade world-famous Kashmiri apples and has enough potential to become a horticultural hub of Jammu and Kashmir, but the government must shus negligence towards its infrastructural lackings. If apposite developmental packages are allotted for this district, sooner it will become an exemplary district throughout J&K,’’ he concluded.

On the occasion, the new entrants thanked the leadership and avowed to work diligently for the welfare of the people in their respective areas besides strengthening the party at grass roots level.(KNS)
